Ford FE (390/427) 2x4 aluminum intake and carbs

Went to Performance Solutions today for some Dyno time - Nic and crew are great!
Bad news for me though is that I have way too much carb for my little 390.

Good news for you is I'm selling my current setup - aluminum low-rise 2x4 intake, dual carbs, linkage, fuel log, air cleaners (small round, and large oval finned).

Intake: C3AE-9425-K (k is stamped) Aliminum low-rise 2x4 intake
Carbs: 2 Holley 4160 450 CFM carbs, p/n R 9776. Chokeless, mechanical secondaries
2x4 fuel log
2x4 linkage
8" round chrome air cleaners
oval finned aluminum air cleaner (not pictured)
Holley 4150/4160 Handbook by Mike Urich

Averything together cost over $1300, has less than 500 miles on it, and is in good shape (actually still on the car)

I'm not sure what the current market is for this, but am willing to take offers!

Idaho Legislative Update Re: New Emissions Testing Statue

The Ada County Air Quality Board's new rules start Jan. 1, 2010:

Tests will be required every other year - even-model-year vehicles in even years, odd-model-year cars in odd years.

New vehicles will be exempted for their first four years.

Vehicles built before 1981 and hybrids will be exempted.

The maximum test fee will be $20.

But if you just got your postcard or have been putting off a test already due, you'll still be expected to comply with the old rules.

The changes are based on those proposed by the Treasure Valley Air Quality Council and approved by the Idaho Legislature.

World Fastest Snow Mobile

Things have gotten a little slow on our web site lately so here is a link to the snow mobile that is in my pictures of our trip to Bonneville World of Speed this fall. Can you imagine taking this thing to McCall for the Winter Festival snow mobile races?

The International governing body of two and three wheeled motorsport - the FIM - has a class for snowmobiles. Designed as tracked powered single and two seat devices for winter transport for people who enjoy exploring snow covered lakes, lands and mountains the snowmobile was a more practical alternative to the quad bike. But these winter devices are also used by racers who compete on snow courses created with jumps and banked bends set out in indoor and outdoor stadia.

The Americans love to race all year around and to begin with they modified their snowmobiles for asphalt and dirt drag racing. Then when racing became established they created bespoke ? mile and 1/8 mile machines but the skis had come off and the track belt had to be a special material and surface design.

The French Canadian team of Lamtrac/G Force One led by Gilles Gagne had shown the speed potential of their snowmobile on a runway in 2008 when they attained a speed of 210.3 mph supervised by snowmobile racing officials. With an International governing body officiating and a world record to attempt the team entered the Bonneville Shootout 2009. Running in a class designated as snowmobile, partially streamlined, 1000cc, forced induction the Yamaha R1 engined device christened the saltmobile produced 600 hp assisted by the alcohol/nitro methane fuel blend. Rider Francis Moran had to cope with numerous early problems and the team had to make modifications and replace some of their trick parts but on the groomed salt course his average speeds for the mile and kilometre exceeded 200 mph. The runs were 198.008 mph for the mile and 198.485 mph for the kilo backed up by the best of 208.053 mph for the mile and 209.126 mph for the kilo.

Bonneville Salt Flats World of Speed

We went to Wendover Utah for the World of Speed 2009 16-19 September at Bonneville salt Flats. I can't remember the last time we had so much fun. It was any gearheads dream come true. There were motor vehicles of every kind in the pit area. There were Electric motored Bar Stool racers that went 48MPH. We thought that they should run handicap races with the driver holding a 24oz beer mug and losing 1 mph for every oz of beer lost during the 1 mile run. We saw a twin turbo Diesel semi that was making over 2500HP set a new record of over 197 MPH. A 350MPH Streamliner and a Canadian Snow Mobile that has run at 210MPH. Lots of cool machines. The salt flats are amazing and just seeing them on TV doesn't do them justice. You really need to be there. I think that next year we need to go in force and make this a Club event.
They have a 130 & 150 MPH Club that is for mostly stock vehicles. For the Cobras the main issue would be a requirement for a minimum 4 point roll bar.
If I could work out that issue I would love to get my Cobra on the salt. Maybe I'll take the 65 Mustang as the rules are less strict for cars with tops. (no roll bar needed for 130 and the Stang has a 4 point for 150) we did see a polished Kirkham there one day but he was only spectating.

Glad to say that my cobra is up and running. I had a solid roller lifter lose its needle bearings and wiped out my cam. It took a bit longer than I would have liked but the cam designer took some time to determine if a warranty was in order. Long story short he gave me a good deal on a new set of lifters and repaired my cam. While I had it tore down I replaced the rod and main bearings along with a new oil pump. Weather permitting I hope to meet up with the club this fall early winter for a short cruise. Darren
