Hurricane up and running

Glad to say that my cobra is up and running. I had a solid roller lifter lose its needle bearings and wiped out my cam. It took a bit longer than I would have liked but the cam designer took some time to determine if a warranty was in order. Long story short he gave me a good deal on a new set of lifters and repaired my cam. While I had it tore down I replaced the rod and main bearings along with a new oil pump. Weather permitting I hope to meet up with the club this fall early winter for a short cruise. Darren

Forum: Shop Talk

Check Those Safety Wires

Recently we transported a MKIII (from out-of state) back to our shop that has significant damage when the wheel came off while the owner was driving. The good news.. he was only traveling about 10 mph while turning a corner when it happened. I'm sure we can all imagine what could have been a life threatening event had the car been traveling at normal speed. The not so good news.. it'll be rather expensive for the necessary body work to restore it to like new again.

How many of us take time to check the safety wires on those cars that have them? Probably not many is our guess.. maybe adding this to your checklist before hitting the open road on that next fun run or cruise isn't such a bad idea, right? A couple of things to note here.. if the safety wires are wound too tight or too loose it can cause stress & tension, which could snap the wire. Although this particular MKIII isn't one of our Gear 6 build-outs.. we will be routinely inspecting saftey wires on every MKIII that comes thru our shop.

View more images here..

Safety Alert: So What Does Losing a Wheel on a MKIIII, While Driving, Look Like?

Forum: Shop Talk

Dyno results

Just wanted to share the results from my dyno run at performance solutions. 1ST of all I want to thank Nick at performance solutions for going above and beyond anything I would have expected. For those that don't know I have a stroked 408w in my Hurricane cobra. Projected hp at the crank was 550. Max HP at the rear wheels 436.9 and corrected HP at the flywheel was 555HP. The tune job made a rowdy engine fun to drive and Nic found alot more HP and Torque down low in the rpms. Torque was 412 at 2600 rpm max torque 434 at 4800rpm. Here is a link to You tube. Enjoy!
Low oil pressure

Special thanks to Wayne on helping troubleshoot a low oil pressure problem. I used a fram oil filter on last oil change. The result was a drop in oil pressure by 15 psi. I installed a NAPA gold oil filter and my oil pressure is up where it belongs. Thanks again Wayne! Darren Wright

Forum: Shop Talk
